Bra talk with mom (for Angie, finally!)

Sometimes I feel like all your questions are falling from the sky like rain and I'm trying to catch each drop. I just can't catch them all. But I can, at least, make Angie happy today. She asks...

Dear PLS,
i am 11 and already a b cup but i still havent talked to my mom about puberty i havent even got her to buy me a proper bra with cups yet Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S this is the 2nd time I've asked this question!
Angie, 11

I say you should bring it up with your mom. Just say something like, "My old bras don't fit me anymore. Do you think I could get measured for a new one?" Sometimes stores will do this or you can do it on your own, or with your mom's help. This link explains how. Click on What's My Bra Size?

Any other advice out there?

ooh boy. Why don't you just get your mom alone and talk to her?

Ugh! Bras can be so embarrassing to talk about, even when it's with someone with someone you trust, like your mom! But if you know what's good for you, tell your mom something like this:

'Mom, can we go shopping for something?'
I wouldn't really recommend shopping with your dad, because dads aren't pros with that sort of thing. If he's your last resort, though, tell him you need to go shopping for 'girl stuff'. He'll get the message.

Anyway, back on topic. Tell your mom your problem. Tell her that your old bras are getting too small, and you need new ones. She understand that you need to be wearing one the right size, and she will DEFINITELY understand that it's not fun to be uncomfortable! She'll know what you mean, and don't worry! It'll be embarrassing, but it's a good thing to do.

Yeah, I had been wearing a bra for a while, then I realized it didn't fit anymore. I'm sure that you're Mom will understand. Just ask her what those people before me recommended. She probably had to go through what you do too, right?

If you cannot catch your mom alone, just say, "Mom Can I talk to you for a moment? About girlstuff, u know like puberty and "developing" and all that." And If she says yea and you two go in the kitchen or somewere were there is noone else around(like boyz lol) Say: "Mom I am developing more and my other bras dont fit me anymore. I take a b cup now. Do you think later on just me and you can go to the store and pick out a bra that fits me better? Please? Theese bras that I am wearing really hurt! I have adjusted them all the way to make them bigger, but they are still too tight. please help!

Dear Angie,
well if you wanna talk to your mom about wearing a bra with cups is that you you should talk to her alone like in the car or in your room or somewhere you think would be comfortable for you to talk to her about it. And the same thing about talking to her about

DONT WORRY! I told my older sister to send the message to my mom! Things worked out great! Remember that every girl is going to have to wear one sooner or later so tell your mom that you fell comfortable with a cup bra. As soon as you buy one then she will tell you to buy more!

arghhhhh bras so embrassing to talk about but u need to talk to someone. might as well be your mom. i know how hard it is to talk about it. i have been wearing them for a year now and i still feel a little awkward talking to mom about it. but anyway my advice is nxt time u and ur mom are out doing shopping or something take a deep breath and tell her," Mom i need another bra the old one doesnt fit anymore,so do u think we can go and check out some?" THAT SIMPLE!!!!! it may seem really scary at first but after u talk u will feel so relieved after ward and feel even closer to ur mom.

I agree - its nothing to worry about bless ya! Talking about bras with mothers can be embarrassing but to be hoenst, i never had to do it. I suppose i was lucky in the fact that my mom randomly came home one day with a pair of bras that fit me and has been bringing home some ever since. But once they get too small, i would just casually say 'can we get some bras cuz mine are getting a bit small'. Also, if your allowed to, theres nothing to stop you buying them in town yourself! Hope that helps!

So I guess you should start off by acting like you want to spend more time with your mom, Then once you and your mom are somewhere alone tell her "mom I have to tell you something important" and get into all the details like 'you know how girls grow up and their body changes?' something like that.

Remind her. "Mom, you said that we were gonna get some new bras, remember?" Or just ask. "Mom, remember you said I needed a bra..." A good time to bring that up is when you're at the mall or Target, somewhere where you can get one where you are. :) - Erica

My mom says she gets annoyed when we play the "guessing game" which is I don't tell her about what i need and she can tell there is something on my mindshe says that she wants me to come out and tell her trust me it works a lot better such as I went up to her in private and said
"Mom,I think I need to start wearing a bigger bra size"
She said
"Okay we will go soon"
We went that day ( at the store)my mom
"I like it when you come out and tell me that way I can help you through it and know what you need, it is a lot easier on me as the mom"
There it was simple and she helped me a lot just talk to her it will make it easier, moms realy help

i didn't know how to ask either, but i read on some website to say that your chest feels uncomfortable short a bra. my mom said maybe and to wait until we could go shopping together. She still hasn't given me the puberty talk yet, but i borrowed a book from a friend and my mom doesn't know i know about it yet. my aunt got my cousin the book and my cousin is completely flat-chested. so it doesn't matter what size you are you can still ask for a bra, if your mom says no, ask to get measured again. hope i helped!

Well I got a little hole in my training bra, and I knew I needed a padded, so I made the hole bigger! I showed my mom and she said:
"So I guess your showing me this because you need a new one? *smile*"
Me: yeah, could I get a sports bra for softball?
Mom: of course!
Me: ok can we go tomorrow?
Mom: yeah.
*at the store*
I started looking at padded bras and she said:
Wait you need a non padded sports bra, they are right here.
Me: Well, I think this one will work.
Mom: OK you can TRY it.
Me: OK!
*at home*
I tried it on, and it made me look HUGE and I was so upset!
I need something in between, like one with a little bit of padding, but I don't know how to tell my mom.

P.S we take my brothers shopping, how do I tell my mom that they CAN'T GO!? She takes them EVERYWHERE!

Hi! Ok so talking about bras may feel uncomfortable but every girl has to wear one sooner or later.i had a easy situation. Me and my mom were shopping and she was like "i think you should get a training bra". I was only 9! Now im 12. When you need to ask to wear one or get a new one act confident even if your not.moms went through the same thing. Also if your an older sister(like me)doing this kind of paves a path for your little sister.hope this helps!

I'm way to scared to tell my mom and we are going to the store on the 26th of July but my siblings are coming (there younger) my dad isn't coming too. Can anyone give my advise? Or tell me a way to ask???

I'm too scared to ask my mum to go and buy bras. Some of the ideas that u guys have are good, but I would never have the courage to actually do it. She said for me to go to her when I need them but I'm like #awkward

I literally wrote a note just then and slipped it into my mums iPad case where I know she will eventually find it. I was like:
It's really awkward to talk about, but I think I need a bra? So, like, if we could go shopping someday and try some on, that would be good. I think I have an idea of what size I am and could I get some basic ones and some sports bras for sport?
Jeez, I need a lot of new clothing. I hope I'm not costing you too much money. I will pay it all back once I'm older and I hopefully have a job.
Sorry, it's kind of awkward to ask you in person...
Or if you are busy and you would have to go by yourself, maybe try a 30AA ? If it doesn't fit then we can go together.

Love you lots xxx

I kinda mixed it with some other words and it was surprisingly easy to write! I'm just dreading the time when she reads it!
