Help candy girl!

Who doesn't like candy? But Lindsay, 11, wrote in to ask if candy can go too far. Here's her question:

Dear PLS,
I have a small problem. I go to my neighbor's house and, when they are not looking, I steal candy from the bowl on the counter. They have told me before (although they don't know I steal) that I can take candy whenever I like but I have to ask. I feel guilty, but I am addicted to the candy! How can I stop before the pounds catch up with me?

I asked a doctor friend of mine to help with this one. She agreed that you don't want to overdo the candy. Here's her advice:

1. Definitely ask before taking candy from your neighbor's candy bowl. Not only is it polite, but it might help you take less of it.

2. Write down how much candy you're eating each day. When the amount is down on paper, it could help you step back and say - whoa, that's too much

3. Consider setting your own limits on how much you'll eat and try to stick to them.

What about you guys? Do you have any candy issues? I think everyone has taken the candy thing a little too far. Especially at Halloween. I know it's not even close to October, but check out this game, which helps you add up candy calories.

Try getting "hooked" on some healthy foods instead of candy, which has a lot of calories. Calories can be really bad for you. Like I said try finding healthy foods that you like. A good example would be apples, peaches, or grapes. Lay off the candy. Some candy once in a while is okay but too much can be bad...not only for your weight and body health and all that but the sugar can rot your teeth too! Yikes!
And for the stealing, just remember that that is not showing your neighbors any respect... And slso keep in mind of what it would be like if it was the other way around; you wouldn't like it if they were the ones stealing from you....would you?

Hi! I love candy and I think i hate too much too! But, I do try and cut down but the candy is so irrasistable!

Yeah, I had a candy issue once too. Even though I knew they were bad, I stole them anyway. Maybe out of hunger or just wanting to eat. Even if you want to eat, try for healthy stuff. After eating a healthy diet for a while and suddenly eating candy or fast foods), you'll taste the repulsing difference.. :O

I had a major chocolate issue. I had to have some a day, and after one bite had to finsih the whole bar. Try cutting down slowly. If you eat 5 peices a ay, try only having three (ask them though). You'll soon break the habit!

Yeah, once you are addcted to something(like candy)it is hard to stop. Instead of eating so much candy, try eating 3 peices a week and instead eat a fruit or something. Also if you go to your local grocery store they make these little cups with fruit and you freeze it and t tastes like icecream but it is healthy. Another thing is buy your favorite kind of juice and put it in ice trays. Then you cover it with tin foil. Then you stick 1 tooth pick in each hole. The you let it freeze and it is popcicles that are healthy and fun to make!

try your hardest not to even look at the candy and reward yourself every few times with one. but remember stick to healthy snacks for most of the time. there are lots of healthy foods that taste really good.

i love candy too what u should do is ask where they got it from and have ur own so u don't steal because thats wrong so just get some yourself or ask in future

I had this problem too! Almost exactly like it: When I went to my neighbors house to babysit their dogs while they were away, i would steal candy and gum. I think something that might help you stop like I did is that you should compare: Fruit, veggies, or your favorite meal vs. chocolate, ice cream, and gum. I found that fruit and veggies were much more satisfying than candy which made me feel sick.

I have this problem too, I'm addicted to candy. just try pacing yourself, by asking for a piece of candy whenever ur over. Or take ur own candy over with u, so u don't feel urged to have a piece, then guilty about it l8er.

Well Lindsay,
you know that stealing candy is wrong, my best advice to you is to start a non-candy stealing girl life, and start asking if you can have some, and if you want candy constantly say "I can do this,I can stop eating all this candy, i am strong, and I can control myself!"

STOP you are a girl and girls can control them selves try stopping cold turkey if that does not help then have a peice a day or tell the neighbor that will stop u because they will proby stop having it there

I agree - healthy food will probably help and candy isnt bad if you only have it once in a while. I am not a sweets addict myself because i keep telling myself, 'too much will make me fat/kill my teeth'. of course that wont work for every girl but thats what i do! hope that helped!

Candy is tasty good and full of everything you want except fat and sugar.It will make you gain weight and you wont look so happy anymore.Be careful and I hope you stop your candy addiction.

P.S. this is weird but I imagine candy in my mouth basically food but I taste the candy.

I think that you're taking it without asking because you feel guilty about eating candy. There's nothing wrong with eating it in moderation, like one piece a day. If you stick with hard candy, it will last a long time.
