Haley's gone veggie (take 2)

We had some "technical issues" with this post, but it's back!

I know it's a little unexpected but I love vegetables. (Those are artichokes in the photo there. Yum!)

I've even thought I could be a vegetarian - someone who doesn't eat meat at all. I hear it's a little tricky to do that and still get all the vitamins etc. that you need. But Haley's gone and done it. See her question below. Any other veggie girls out there?

Hi,
I just went vegetarian today. I noticed I couldn't find any stuff about vegetarians on your site. I need more info!!! Can you PLEASE HELP?!
Haley, 9

Also, I thought I'd include a link to a delicious veggie recipe. Yes, vegetarians eat peanut butter - a great source of protein!

hi haley, i have been a 'veggie' for a year and a half now. my life is great! it's really not all that difficult. i just have to plan which days i'll bring my lunch to school and when their serving something non-meat. it really helps to have someone turn veggie with you. my mom and i both turned down meat at the same time, and lemme tell ya it's changed my life. (i also lost 13 lbs!)you don't have to be all that serious at first, just try not eating red meat for a while, (cows and pigs) and then white meat (birds) and if you're up to it 0.
sea food (fish, crab etc. that one is real hard for me!) some products to stay away from: jello (one of the main ingredients is horses hooves) pudding (pig bones. blech!) and fudge bars (i know, i know. you're thinking: there's no meat in any of that! but look it up. i swear.) well, i hope i have helped!
thanks for your time -

I love veggies too! But I am not a veggatarian. The one thing you should be careful of is getting enough protein in your system. You can do this by eating healthy protein bars.

hi Haley! congratulations and good luck for your healthy choice! i wish every one else felt like you too!! I've been a vegetarian all my life. do you know that in some countries people don't eat meat at all because their religion doesn't allow them to kill and eat animals? also, some VERY religious people don't eat plants that grow underground because they feel that the digging that farmers have to do to obtain those plants, will kill the insects in the soil! that means no potatoes, onions, garlics, ginger, radish or carrots ever!! anyway, a simple way to abstain from meat is to just ask other vegetarians for the yummiest vegetarian snacks that can be made (like cheese sandwiches, Waldorf salads) also, if you are eating out, you just have to ask the waiter to make sure our order doesn't have any meat in it. good luck again and i hope i helped!

I think this is a great idea Haley. You could benefit from it a lot more than you think. It may be a little difficult at first, but if you use a little creativity, you can find vegetables quite interesting. Instead of a fatty meat burger, try lentil burgers, they taste awesome!! Here's a link to the recipe: http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/vegetarian-lentil-burgers-recipe.html

Hey, I think it's great more and more people are starting to become vegetarians. I for one have been one for about a year and a half now. I actually enjoy it; knowing that i'm helping the animals out there :)
You can eat alot of things, not just vegetables!, fruit, use your imagination! At the grocery store there's even fake meat which tastes delicious, like REAL meat. It's quite yummy!
And also, On peta.com there's alot of recipes. Or you can just google them.
I hope I've helped :D

Well Haley, being a vegetarian isn't as hard as some people think. I'm actually a vegan which means I don't eat anything that comes from animals (meat,eggs,dairy,ect.). Have your parent take you to any grocery store and look for a vegetarian meat section. There you can find fake meats that are delish! You can get chicken nuggests, burgers, sausage, and more! With all of these yummy foods out there you don't even have to like veggies! I don't! Just make sure along with fake meat you are eating fruit, nuts, and wheat. Stores like Wegmans and Whole Foods have a ton of vegetarian food! Good luck and thanks for taking a stand to help animals!

Hi Haley,
I'm a vegetarian. Eat loads of beans(not baked beans!) and nuts. And of course vegetables and fruit are essential. Good for you for thinking about a meat free diet. It's hard at first especially if your family eat meat. Soon u and your family will adjust tho!! Tofu and Quorn r gd 2. Good luck!!!:)
