When your friends grow up faster than you...

Hello Pink Locker girls!
Thank you for all the feedback about the book series and the new cover. I've noticed quite a few requests that we should answer MORE questions. Oh, yes we should. Here goes...it's a two-fer for Bridget.

Dear PLS,
A lot of my friends have started getting their periods, and I am just starting to wear a bra. They (my friends) don't seem different, but I feel kind of uncomfortable around them. How do I feel better around them?
Bridget, 11

Dear PLS,
I need help. Please help me. When I was younger, I used to hope so much that I would start getting breasts and my period, but now that I'm starting, I'm really scared. Please help me.

OK, so I'm not sure that both of these questions are from the same Bridget, but I think they could be because these issues are related. We want to be like our friends, wear the same/similar clothes and hairstyles, listen to the same music etc. etc. etc. But puberty SO doesn't care.

Some girls develop early and others develop later and it's weird when you and your BFFs are suddenly different in this obvious way. You'll eventually catch up, you know that blah-blah-blah, but what about RIGHT NOW? It's mucho awkwardo if they're all talking about something that you haven't gone through yet.

In my opinion, as a slow bloomer, it would be nice if faster bloomers were more understanding. They should try not to make you feel left out - like they're in the club and you're not.

And taking Bridget's second question, I totally understand both wanting to grow up but also being afraid of these new, um, developments.

Let's give Bridget your best advice. Would be nice to hear from both fast and slow bloomers on this one.

Think pink!

My BFF had her period, in fact two of them did, but I've found that if you just forget about that aspect in life, you can feel more comfortable around your friend(s)!

For the first question I think that you should just rember that all of these things will happen to you to!So don't feel uncomfortable they are your friends just try to have fun when you are with them! For the second question, I think that it is very normal to be scared , it really isn't scary, by the time it happens to you you will give other advice to other girls saying that it isn't scary and you will think it was silly to be scared! Good luck to both of you! Hope that I helped!

Hi! Late bloomer here, Don't worry! Enjoy the fact that you haven't had your period yet, neither have I! If you don't think about it 24/7 it won't bother you, that's what I did! (It really does work!)

Just be confident in your own skin. There are plenty of late bloomers, and trust me, it's not like wearing a bra is the most comfortable thing in the world. And seriously, enjoy not having your period while you can. Haha. It's no big deal, it's fine, but it's just so nice without it! :) And don't be scared, because every girl has to go through this and there are always people to help and support you. Once you get used to these new things, it's totally fine. Like learning to ride a bike ;) haha.

Just relax and try not to think about it. You can grow up when you want to. It doesn't have to be now.

I'm an early bloomer, I've been developing breasts since 4th grade and I got my period when I was 11. But I used to worry that I'd be a late bloomer, and I discovered that it's not such a bad thing. You don't have to lug pads and tampons around all the time, you don't have to deal with the cramps and you don't need to worry about wearing an umcomfortable bra all the time either! Be happy with who you are, and remember: your friends are the same girls on the inside, even if they're changing outside!

I'm so a late bloomer, and to tell you the truth, I'm happy about that. I mean, bras don't seem to feel like velvet or anything soft! And unless you get a tampon, you can't go swimming when you have your period. I also like being a late bloomer because I really hate the idea of tampons, but I'm a gymnast (so I have to wear tight leotards) so when I need a pad, it might show! Or worse, make some crinkly noise! For me, it's kinda like trying to get a new skill.I know I'm going to get it eventually, so I'll let it come when it's ready. But that not to say I'm not jealous of the way boys look at girls who NEED bras... :) I <3 PLS!

And stay pretty in perfection!

PS.Yes, you are perfect, and remember this:
You are perfect because God made you and loves you still.

Hi Hi Bridget,

My best advise, and I am really sorry if it does not help, is that if you forget about the fact that your friends are getting older and all the rest and just have some fun with them, then you will enjoy yourself alot more, just remember that, we are all different, and all grow older and start to grow up at different times.

I hope I heleped!

Ahh, anouther person with the same look at puberty. Yes, puberty can seem weird, strange, and yes scary at first. I even don't have my period yet. But it's natural and normal and it's your body. When you start to mature and get older, you'll get more used to it. If you still don't wanna think about puberty, then don't! Just think about friends and family, and try not to grow up so fast. PEACE OUT!!!!

Anyway nobody will admit they have their period, during swimming lessons everybody has letters for the teacher but makes up a really lame excuse about ear ache. Okay, ALL the girls who have commented on this post:
Chances are, if you haven't started your period, you want to, right?
Please don't think that. It's terrible. Don't believe commercials or media that tell you otherwise because it's not glamorous. It's a time that will have you constantly worried about whether or not there's something on the back of your pants, it will put you in a bad mood, you won't feel good and your stomach will hurt.
I'm NOT trying to freak you out, but my point is that you shouldn't HOPE for your period to come. Cherish the fact that you're still free from some of the worries that come with your period. And also, bras are uncomfortable, just saying. Ha :)
Don't grow up too fast, I promise you'll miss it! And if other girls are being mean to you about having started their periods when you haven't yet, ignore that and change the subject. It's much easier to have a good time when you're talking about something you ALL have in common!
Hope this helps, girls :)

I'm a fast developer. I got my first bra at 10 and my period at 11 and 1/2. I completely understand wanting to be like your friends but also understand that once you start developing it will just be one more annoying thing to deal with the rest of your life. Not that it's horrible but just remember that you'll have the rest of your life to enjoy these things. Also to fast developers remember that your not the only one going through this and pretty soon everyone will be there with you. Then you can give them advice on everything!!
