Moving up to cup bras

Dear PLS,
I'm so afraid to ask my mom to buy me cup bras. Although I'm kinda flat I think it's time I get out of these sweaty and small training bras.

How do I ask her? Please help me.

Well C.W. cup bras are needed once you can see your nipples through you bra. If you are not ready for one try a bigger size in training bras. If you are ready ask your mom. Moms know alot about this kind of stuff.

Just ask your mom. They went through it too, and if she's not convinced you need a cup bra, tell her that double A bras work for people like you (and me.)

If your breasts havent developed enough for cup bras and yet you don't want to wear a sweaty training bra, then just wear a sports bra then, they arn't sweaty and perfect for all girls. Hope this helps.

just take a deep breath. your mom was a preteen once too. she probably understands exactly what you are going through. why don't you sit down with her and you could say something like -this is a little uncomfortable for me but I think it is time for me to look into a cup bra -or could we talk about bras just be really forward about what you want, but make sure that you actually want a cup bra because you think it would make you more comfortable not because you are pressured into it by your friends or people around you. last idea is that you could think of a compromise of something in the middle, there are bras made with very little padding that are junior size and generally used for girls who aren't quite ready for a padded bra, but have grown out of training bras and remember your body is at it's own pace and you should do whatever YOU feel best with good luck :D

If you are too flat a cup bra would be very uncomfortable. It would keep moving so if they are too big still wait maybe a few more months

Go up to your mom. Make sure your in privet, no older brother. Say "Hey mom, I think I'm ready for a different bra. I was thinking maybe a cup bra?" Then, the question is in your moms hands. Maybe she will say "Sure, honey. Maybe we can go shopping this weekend." Or maybe she will say "Honey, I don't think your ready yet. Maybe in a few months we will see how you are developing, okay?" Don't be hurt by your moms words. Remember, she is doing the best she can for you. She's doing what SHE thinks is best.

I have the same problem. I really want a cup bra, but I have what are called "breast buds". I tried to ask her tonight, but I chickened out. Im going shopping with a friend this weekend, so my plans are:
1) buy one with my friend and show it to my mom when I get home
2) buy one with my friend, take a picture of it, and send it to my mom explaining what it is I'm getting
3) tomorrow tell her I would like one and that I tried one on for fun before with a friend (which I really did) and that it fit me pretty well, and pray she'll approve.
Please help me with what to do!

so if your mom ever goes to look at bras for herself while she's with you maybe look at some for yourself and then try them on i mean if she see's you trying them on and they fit she might realize that
you're ready for them

i hope i helped!

You can just calmly sit down with a parent or someone you feel you trust enough to ask "Do you think I could get a cup bra" of course you may be nervous, if so take four deep breaths and what about when your mom was a girl?? She might have asked the same thing to someone she trusted! Now if you ask your dad take the four deep breaths and say something like "Dad, I think I need a cup bra now" or you could be like "Dad I need some new underwear" and when you go to get your underwear you can find some bras quickly try them on and if you do this make sure you have the money and you are a lone!!! And so you but them and wear them... I hope this helps!

I'm so tired of sports bras! They are really comfortable, but I have 2 and they're WAY 2 small! whenever I take it of before bed it like leaves a mark on my back from where i was wearing it! + my mom is gunna buy me 6 more this week... even though she said the same last week and the weeks before that!!! Im jealous of my friend who wears a cup one because mine barely give any support! I really want a cup bra but I'm afraid she'll say no! How do I ask her? P.S I'm 11 and developed.

I'm just gonna ask her to buy me some new bras. Sport bras are really comfy until you can get a cup bra. They just have to be the right size.

It's true. I'm wearing sports bras just untill the time comes that I need to wear cup bras. But girls, don't let them "SPORTS" part fool you. It just means tthat it helps them to not move around as much so it can be helpful while playing sports.

Cup bras tend to make your boobs bounce around when u r playing sports, so if you play sports often, I suggest u use a sports/training bra. But if u think u will feel more comfortable with cup bra then u should just ask ask your mom, she went though it as well. Hope this helps! :)

I remember being that age. I'm in college now, but when I was 13 I couldn't wait to grow up. Its a scary time, but also very fun! I got my first cup bra when I was about 12. By the time I got it I had already developed into a B cup! Its scary to ask, but remember its nothing to be afraid of! Its just a piece of clothing, so be calm when you talk to your parent; they'll see how mature you are and get you one! Be sure to get measured every 6 months, I never got told to so I wore that B-cup bra until I was 17 and a DD-cup! That was terribly uncomfortable! So make sure to check at least 6 months, or if you gained or lost weight, or you've noticed significant breadt growth. : ) happy shopping!

I just turned eleven and when i was ten my mom and i were just shopping around in the kids section because i needed some shirts since i'm so skinny and i grow too tall. On our way to the fitting room there were some bras and i hardley ever noticed them but then my mom said do you want these so she just got a couple training bras a medium and small and i tried them on with my shirts. The small fit and i got two triangle bras and 3 cami bras. My advice is usually your mom will notice and know when you need one so just be patient and if it doesn't happen by the summer before 6th grade then you should ask that summer for any kind of bra you want.

Just wear a sports bra for now and if your breasts start to become bigger ask your mom. I know you're so anxious to grow up but you can wait. Ask your mom in a calm, nice way or just say "mom, my old bras don't fit anymore." and she will say oh we have to go get some new ones don't we? And then your problem will be solved. Hope this helped! :)

Now I feel like a giant brick has been lifted off my back ;) Oh and here is some advice, for your first bra, go get some cheap ones from a department store cuz ur going to grow out of them really fast. My mom told me that and she said that once I stay one size for a while, I can go shopping without her or with friends ( not awkward cuz they do it all the time), and go get myself good ones that are expensive =) hope this helped :)

Girl Above Me:
You have to say something to your mom. But only do this when your mom is in a good mood AND semi-distracted on the computer or reading labels on something at the grocery store. This is what you should say:
You: Hey, mom?
Mom: Yes?
You: The training bras you bought me are really tight. I was wondering if I could get one with cups...? It would be a lot more comfortable..
Mom: Are you sure?
You: Yeah.
Mom: Okay, if you're sure, we'll go get some this Friday, okay?
End of story.
It might be super-embarrassing, but trust me; you'll feel a LOT better when you just ask. I've been there myself and was super-nervous and even chickened out a couple times. But I was relieved after I finally got it over with. Besides, asking only takes 20 seconds of courage...
And yes, I think you're ready for a cup bra. I was 11 when I started wearing a cup bra and stayed the same size for a long time.
If you don't want to have the conversation I suggested, you could go all out and say, "Mom, I need to wear a real bra." If she asks why just tell her! She's your mom and was probably was in this exact same dilemma when she was your age. She wears bras, too, you know...
Just be confident and try not to sound nervous when you ask.
Hope I helped! (:

Your mom probablydoesnt want you to grow up say something about it like "mom I know this is kinda embarrassing. I know you probably don't want me growing up but I think its time for a bigger bra." We also use the term cuppage instead of bras. Don't be afraid to ask her just close your eyes and keep your eyes on the pride( the cuppage")

Here's what u should do: When your mom is resting but awake or she's reading in her bedroom go and fold your laundry near her when nobody else is there. Then when you get to folding your bra, hold it up to her and say "Mom, can we go to the store and get a different kind of this? I think i want the kind with cups." She'll understand and you won't even have to say the word bra. It's easier and less embarrassing, and trust me u don't have to do it exactly like this she could be doing something else as long as it's just you and your mom and you're folding your laundry near her. I hope i helped.

Mom: *looks at bras and put three padded in the cart*
Me: *I walk behind a different shelf* "Yes!" * I calmly waalk back to my mom as she pays.*

Well anonymous, it depends on how big your breasts are. If they are really small then you should try telling your mom why you dont need one and maybe wear a sports bra if she really wants you to. If your breasts are bigger and you can see your nipples wearing like a tank top or something when your not wearing a bra then you should maybe consider wearing a bra. Try writing her a note or e mailing her or txting her. I hope it works out for you!

Hello, I am 10 and I wear a bra thats no padded, so basically a starter bra. Well, it dosent protect me and when I went shopping with friends I tried on a soft cup bra and it was perfect. It didn't even enhance me. But how do I ask her next time by text? On Tuesday the health team came in and talked to us about puberty and periods and I told my mum what the lady said about breasts and I said the lady told us we should start wearing bras when we feel we are ready and she said I can wear a 'bra' but i don't know what type of bra and last time I asked before the talk she said no and sounded angry by text.
How can I ask her next time we go and how do I make her say yes?
By the way I am a 30a.

To all the girls who think they will fit into an AA, if I were u I would stick to sports bras or training bras (not padded) because AA bras are REALLY small. I've seen them in stores and Im pretty sure that girls with small breast buds would even be squished in them. My guess is that they would only fit u if u were completely flat. And what's the point of a bra of ur flat? Also, If you fit into one there is a pretty big chance that u would grow out of it right away. My advice is to wait until u fit into an A cup. I hope this is helpful!

Don't worry about asking your mom the worst thing she could do is say no even if she says no just wait awhile or ask if you can at least try them on and if it fits then you can get it. Just try or leave a note beside her then run into your room and give her reasons too.

Hey guys I am 12 years old and stuck with the boring crop tops and sports bras. I want to ask my mum for a cup bra or a wireless bra but every time I goto ask her I get a nervous!i don't wanna text her because its awks, and if I email her my dad might find the email luckily I am going shopping with a friend tomorrow so I told her bout me wanting a bra and she totally agreed!tomorrow we are gonna get afew for me, but I don't want any of those people measuring me LOL!you don't always have to Ask ur mum about it, ask a friend. I don't share the closest bond with my 17 Year old sister. Afew tips: email or text your mum
Buy afew when with a friend
Snak afew bras in the trolley when your mum isn't looking
Buy some when not with mum, then when she is doing the washing and says "hey is this yours" just say yes and tells her how u were nervous and u felt ready for one!she will understand I hope

What do you mean by a 10B?

February 17, 2013 at 12:47 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

You get "breast buds" when you are just beginning to develop. You shouldn't worry about this though! Remember this is your body so no one can tell you exactly when you actually need your first cup bra..

My Recommendations
Wait until YOU feel comfortable getting one DO NOT let anyone even your mom tell you you need one when you arent ready
Wait until youve started puberty whether this is when you are 8 or when you are 15 it dosent matter
Getting your period and getting a cup bra are 2 major things in a girls life
Think about which one you want to talk to your mom about first..
Take them one at a time!
I hope this helped!

Hey Lexi,
Maybe you could get a bit of your mums time and say and explain nicely that she cant determine your exact bra size and what size fits you the best because only you would really know and that :)
Hope this helped :)

i wear triangle bras with little padding and they are way too small. I really need a cup bra and i know i can fit into one but i don't know how to ask. When i got the bras i have now, she asked me if i wanted them while we were in the store so I never had to ask before and i just don't know how to bring it up. How should i ask?

I'm 11 and I have breast buds but I'm tired of wearing a training bra!!! All of the girls in my class wear cup bras and they bully the people who's chests are flat!!! I just don't know how to ask my mom for one... I get really nervous when I talk to her about puberty and stuff like that! My cheeks start to blush and I have a weird grin on my face.

You never know, maybe your not ready for one. Even if you have breast buds you should probably stick to a training bra. I'm 11 and trust me, I really wanted a bra when I was 9 and my mom said that I didn't need one. But really your mom is only trying do what's best for you. It's ok, one day she'll open up like she did with me!
Your time will come, it's ok!!

I was feeling really desperate and when my Mum and I went shopping I jumped at the chance but my little brother who is 8 wanted to come along. So when we got to the mall I said "hey bro why dont you go look in the toy department and when we are done with the clothes we will come and get you". So my Mum and I went to Farmers and I said hey Mum can I try on a new singlet to wear under my school uniform"? and she said "yes" but they only had white ones so I got one and I went into the changing room and tried it on but I took off my training bra cos you could see it through it and when she came in to check she said" no because she could clearly see my nipples through it". We went back and hung it up and then she said come and have a look I ant to show you something. She went and got me a couple of 8A cup bras to try on and they fited so she got me them and now when I wear them they give me a big red mark where they sat even though they give me more support. What do I do as I want to keep wearing them but they hurt me?? Do I need bigger cups or what?

When my mom first realized that I had a chest, she bought me undershirts with attached bras. They made me very sweaty, so I asked for a real bra, telling my mom that the undershirts made me sweat. She agreed, and I bought a few sports bras. Then she got me one bra with removable pads and I started wearing only that one ever since I bought it. The day she bought me the bra with removable pads, I asked for a cup bra but she said no. Now I want to ask her for one because my friends are bigger than me in all ways (height, chest) and I want to fit in. I think some of them wear cup bras too so that makes me more angry because I'm not like them. I'm tired of wearing that bra and my mom hasn't noticed that my nipples show when I wear a sports bra. I want to ask her for the cups, but she'll probably say that i'm still not ready for it and I'm too young (I'm 12). I am desperate!

For those of you who don't think they are ready for a bra, just remember one thing:
If you have breasts or even a little flesh around your breast buds, you should wear a bra. Start off with a training/sports bra and then move on to a padded/cup bra. I have padded but I want cup. I asked my mom today and she said that I can have more padded bras and only 1 or 2 cup bras. Works for me, and I can probably get more in the future.

There's one thing you can do to convince your mom to buy you a cup (also works for padded) that I tried today and it worked:

Wear a plain shirt (if you have one) with whatever bra you have (could be sports, padded). The shirt can be a lighter color (anything but black) so your nipples look more obvious. Then tell your mom about your nipples showing when you wear shirts like the shirt you are wearing. You could show her with your shirt on how it looks like with whatever type of bra you have.

I asked my mom today for a cup bra. She said no because you are not ready for it (I'm 12!). In my head I was mad but I kept calm and agreed with her. Then I persuaded her by saying "The padded ones can do, but I just want ones that don't show my nipples when I wear plain shirts (I was wearing one today). She said that the padded ones are good and then I asked her, "Could I get a few cup bras just for around the house?" She agreed, and I was so happy in my head!

Practice the night before. When you are getting ready, make sure your alone, take a deep breath and ask. If you really want her to say yes, wait till you fill out a little bit, then she can't say no! Remember this will help in the long run!!!

I feel like I need a padded bra my breasts look awkward in the ones I have. I took advice from this and am planning on asking my mom tonight. I'm gonna tell her that as my body is growing its also changing. I feel kinda self concious with the bras I have and I was wondering if I could get bras with more padding because I am constantly adjusting my clothing, feeling awkward in the bras I have.

Hey, to those of you who need them, on your way to the mall, in the car or something, ask if you can get padded ones. She'll be half concentrating on driving, anyways. The worst thing that will happen is she says no. What have you got to lose, anyways? :) hope this helped!

If your mom doesn't allow you or thinks you aren't ready for cup bras you can ease into it, after training bras if you really think you need the support try getting good sports bras and then if it gets too small tell your mom the bra is too small, that way she will realize that your breasts grew and it's time to upgrade.

I got a bra the sane way but I also need a cup I am 10 and I started wearing bras at 9 because I was an early bloomer so just tell your mom you need new clothes and then just go near the bra section tell her to come over and that your bras don't fit she will buy you a new one 😊 don't worry about it

OK people, I spend most of yesterday reading your comments and i kept telling my self to ask my mum for a cup bra, but i kept chickening out. I finally asked her before i went to bed after we watched a movie, and she was completely understanding! For everyone who is nervous about asking, my advice is just go for it... It may be really annoying seeing everyone saying "Just ask", But it's actually not that hard and me and my mum ended up having a really good mother daughter time! Hope I helped!! xxx
