Tween Summit!

Have you ever been in a group of 300 tween girls? Well, that was the scene in New York City on Sunday for the Tween Summit. Pretty cool

The annual summit (another word for big meeting) brings girls together to talk about lots of stuff: what they're going through right now, their hopes, their dreams, and their desire to help other girls. There were a few key ingredients in this year's summit:
1. Fabulous speakers: Where else can a girl hear from an A-10 fighter pilot, a member of the U.S. women's soccer team and a Disney movie star (Monique Coleman) - all before lunch?

2. Award-winning girls: The conference gave A.L.L.Y. awards to 9 organizations - all started by young women or named in their honor. Here are just a few:

Empower a Girl, which makes small loans to girls in Darfur
We Stop Hate, which aims to build teen self-esteem
Goody Goodies, which raises money for the children of Botswana
Katie's Krops, which grows fresh fruits and vegetables for people in need
Project Heal, which helps girls who have eating disorders

3. Big time energy: The girls clapped, danced, and kept the energy high all day long. They did some listening, but they also did a lot of talking - telling women leaders - and each other - what was on their minds.

This army of girls also went home with goody bags full of fun stuff. And a lucky 50 girls won a copy of Only Girls Allowed, the first book in the Pink Locker Society series. Lots of them stopped by the Pink Locker Society table to make a beaded bookmark. (See photo). I can't wait to hear what they think of the book!

You can check out the photos of the summit HERE.

Think pink!
