Five girls, five different questions about periods

Believe it or not, we received all five of these questions on the same day. It just goes to show that all girls have questions and concerns about periods. Some girls are early, others are late, but we all want to know we are N-O-R-M-A-L.

I can tell you that girls usually get their periods around 12 or 13, though you can be later or earlier and still be fine. Check with your parents or doctor if you have questions.

Who are you more like when it comes to periods - Baylee, Nadia, Emily, Wanna Know, or FPG?

And how sweet is Baylee for wanting to help her friend who hasn't got hers yet? Very, I say.

My friend is really worried that she hasn't got her period yet. How can i make her feel better? (BTW i already have mine, so i dont know what to say.)
Baylee, 13

Dear PLS,
basically all my friends have had there period already and i have never had mine before. is there something wrong with me? am i goin to be ok? and how long is it usual for a girl to start her period?
Nadia, 13

Dear PLS,
I got my period before any of my friends and now I feel super weird because i'm like, more "mature." Help
Emily, 11

Dear PLS,
I'm flat as a pancake. Mot of my friends already have their period and I don't. I have hair down their and I wanna know what's going on in my body. Can you tell me?
Wanna Know, 11

Hey PLS!
I've got to ask you something SUPER important. How do I tell my BFF I got Aunt Flow? We are uberclose and nothing is weird between us but how should I tell her? Should I tell her? What if she already guessed? What if she gets hers and I didn't know? I feel totally clueless! What do I do, PLS?
FPG, 11

This article about periods can give you the basics, so you worry less.

Any advice for our five fabulous question-writers?

U can tell your bff u got ur period by just letting her know!!! Odds are, she'll be happy for you!!! You can also let her know by asking her to meet you in the bathroom at lunch, and if u have ur purse with your supplies she'll know!!!

Kat-K.R.D- There are no ways to make your period come sooner. Trust me, if there were ways then I would know because I am the only one of my friends who doesn't have her period and I have been waiting forever! I probably won't get my period till I am 14 though because I am as flat as a pancake. I wish you luck on getting your period soon though!

I read a puberty book, but i still don't know the signs of my first "Aunt Flo", and I just want to know when to be ready... I already have some "down there hair". and some while ago I realized I'm not flat chested anymore, I already outgrew my first Bra... If you have any answers, please tell me.

Well, Amanda the first sighns is brown sticky like stuff coming "out of you know where" It will happen for 2 days back to back. THEN you WILL start seeing a difference in the sticky substance. You will start seeing red on the 3rd day. Make sure you have pads, tampons, and pant liners. Pads: if you wear pads then make sure you have at lest 3 back ups. Change them through out the day. Tampons: Make sure you know how to properly insert them, never use them over night, or all day. AND make sure you have a panty liner on. You WILL feel the blood if it goes past your tampon, so be sure you have absorbing pads on hand. Panty liners: Use them every day until one day you see brown substance come out. Switch over to pads right away. Use them when you have tampons. (I recently started my period, 4 days ago I know everything that has happened.) Boobs: You cant make your breasts get bigger, suposedly they swell when you have your periods, but I havnt noticed a change in mine. Then again, mine are naturally big... GIRLS. BIG BOOBS SUCK. I had a boyfriend grab my breasts and butt because he said he "loved the shape and size". He is a friend still but I think our relationship being based on my breasts and butt. Not a good feeling.

@Jessica, just say something like, "Mom, I'm not sure but I think I got my period today." If you can't quite say it out loud, write her a note or text her.

Girls, trust me. Being an "early bloomer" stinks.just be glad for every second that you don't have to worry about changing your pad or tampon. I always feel awkward because I got my period before my sister (she's three years older than me!) and all my friends have been great about it. When you tell someone, you'll feel like crawling into a hole, and we've all felt that way at some point in our lives. If they don't support you, then maybe they're not the best friend.

Dear Jemma,
I have a question about tampons.
My mom isn't around, she is somewhere for work for 4 weeks, and I have my period. I learned how to use tampons, but it got stuck once, luckily my grandma was over and she was helping me, telling me how to stay calm and get it out. But now she left, and I am just with my dad, if my tampon gets stuck, I can't ask my dad for help, and I can't call my grandma and ask her for help because she lives 3 hours away! It got stuck once when my mom was here and I couldn't get it out on my own, I kept trying and trying, until finally my mom came in and helped me. So I know I can't get it out by myself! Please help!

Aunt Flo hasn't come yet, but she's not late. I want my period but not enough that I can't wait. My advice is to hang in there and if you have a worried friend that hasn't got her period, tell her you have yours and tell her what you did when you got it!

I have had cramps 4 2 days now I have had hair down there for a long time, I have had discharge for 7 months my boobs started developing two years ago (lumps) then it stopped I am now flat as a pacake. I began to get small tiny drops of blood on my liner too small to call a period. What is going on?

Dear Anonymous who said 'I have small drops of blood on my liner to small to be called a period!',
Of course I don't know because I have not had my period yet, but maybe you are just having light flow? If you don't think so you should tell your mom/other woman relative.

Hope it turns out ok!

Hey girls! For those of you who got your periods and don't know how to tell your Mom, i am here to help! First, get your mom to come into your room before you go to bed. Sut on your bed and when she comes in, say "Mom, i think i got my period today." My mom said "Really? Ok." She gave me some of her pads and answered all of my questions and then i felt much closer with her. Good luck!!!!!!!!!
