Get the truth about what's in your bra!

We've noticed some comments lately (which we did not publish) that reveal some misunderstandings about breasts/boobs/whatever you call them.

We thought we'd clear these ideas up, so everyone can know the facts and not be worried about stuff they don't need to worry about.

Truth #1:Playing sports doesn't' make you flat.
This can be a little confusing, but if you have less body fat (a good thing!), your breasts may be smaller because there's just less of you. And girls who are very active often can be in this leaner category.

In extreme cases of very intense workout schedules (think Olympic athlete), having less body fat can delay someone's first period. But most typical girls will benefit from playing sports and it will make their bodies healthier.

It's also important to note that playing sports isn't going to make your already developed breasts disappear. Someone said they thought this happened to ballerinas. More likely is that people who end up being great at ballet also have lean, ballerina-like bodies.

Truth #2: Bras don't prevent - or cause - breast cancer. We've had girls write in saying they finally agreed to wear a bra because they didn't want to get breast cancer. Other girls worry about whether certain kinds of bras are cancer-causing. But there's no connection between bras and this serious illness, which typically affects older women.

It's a good idea to know a little bit about breast cancer, though. Here's an article that explains more: Breast Cancer

We recently wrote a post about how we read every comment people post and the rules we use for deciding which ones to publish. Basically, we OK everything unless it's mean, inappropriate, or a girl has shared too much personal info.

Now we'll add another category: We don't post comments that are wrong about health issues. Don't feel bad if you made one of these comments. Let's all keep learning together!

Think pink!

Maybe its time to take matters into your own hands. Find another adult that you trust and explain the situation. Maybe go with your best friends mom or a aunt.

even if you start developing late, it doesn't mean that you are going to have big breasts in the end!
Everyone seems to think that they are too small or too big, but everyone is unique.

If you want a bra but don't really need one, I would say that you should get a training bra or sports bra. They are very comfortable for starting out, and then eventually you will be ready to move on from either one of those to a padded bra.

Hope this helped, Anonymous!

To Anonymous,
If you think you are ready for one you can just try wearing it. Your mom may have gotten it for you because she thinks your ready for it. But if you can surely decide that you are not ready for a padded bra yet, then just tell her. She wants you to be comfortable as much as you want yourself to be. Hope this helped:)!

u need a bigger bra! u need 2 try & except the fact that ur growing! it may be hard but there are probably girls in ur grade who r flat chested who wished their chest was ur size! Try 2 except it and u can even get a minimizer bra if u really want cuz it gives the appearance that ur chest is smaller but its still comfy. or u can try flowy tops that hide it Good luck! :)

Whether you think your boobs are too big or too small, you should try to do something about it.
Big: Try wearing a sports bra. I find that they tend to smooth out your appearance. You could also try minimizer bra, but a sports bra might be easier, more comfortable, and skip an embarrassing conversation with your parent(s). Also, avoid tightly fitted shirts. Try looser (but still cute!) t-shirts.
Small: In this case I would suggest that you ask your mom (or dad) to take you shopping for bras and pick out a padded one. Also wear tightly fitted shirts. It will help.
Hope this helps.

@ Erin no bra I you fit into the smallest cups that they make then, the truth is is you don't need a cupped bra. But, in the meantime, try out sports bras and trainer bras. If your looking for a sports bra that is thick and not see through the sports bras in the women's department are thicker and there are actually very small sizes in those.

@ Erin no bra
When I wore training bras they definitely went low enough. Try the style of training bra that looks like it has two triangles. You can even find trainer bras that are racer back. Also, sports bras with adjustable straps will work well.
