"Super" will be trick or treating - for a cause!

You know it's going to be good when you get a comment from someone who calls herself "supercallafragilisticexbialladocias!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

(We'll call her "Super" for short.) Super said she's planning on going trick-or-treating but with a twist. She's using the opportunity as a chance to raise money for a good cause. She wants to give the money to a fab organization called Heifer International.

What's a heifer? It's another word for cow. Heifer International allows people to donate live animals to people who need them. Why?

Because if you're poor and you have a cow, you suddenly also have milk. And there's a good chance that your cow (if it's a girl) could have baby cows and then you'll have more cows to make more milk. Get the idea? It works the same way with chickens (eggs) and sheep (wool). This video gives a one-minute explanation of Heifer International.

So hurray for Super and we wish her lots of luck in her fund-raising!

Just one word of caution: Super should not go door-to-door alone, even on Halloween night. She also should have a parent or another adult with her.

Super was wondering if anyone out there had ever used Halloween to raise money for a good cause. If so, let us know? If not, do you think it's a good idea?

Think pink!
Jemma

That is so cool that you made a topic on my comment!!! I really like helping people, and Halloween is a great way to collect money for a cause. I actually emailed Heifer International and asked if I could get a box for donations. They sent me a link for an "Ark Bank". I will post it.

i have in years past done trick-or-treat for unicef, and it was really fun. One thing that can get annoying is explaining over and over what i was doing (which would take some time) and then having people just bluntly say no. i wish you luck. :):):)

Next year I might go around colecting money for our SPCA or for a cat abuse prevention society. No animal deserves to be treated like garbage. I want to make a difference in the world if we don't what will happen to the world? Some people may not care but I do. There are animals dying by the hand of a murderer. A hunter. Animals have not hurt us so why should we hurt them when we can survive without murder? I hope that the things I do now will be heard and there will be a brighter future for our world.

That is so cool! I'm doing something similiar for my birthday. Instead of getting presents I'm going to give money for a goat, sheep, and 13 ducks ,as well other stuff to my favorite charity World Vision.
Instead of just giving someone food you can give someone an animal and the become totally self-relient.
I once read story about a hungry family who recieve 2 pigs and in a few years they had start a small farm and recieve so much money from the business they were able to adopt a little girl.
It is a really good idea. I wish everyone raise money and awarness for their favorite cause by using a special occasion to get people giving.
ps. the link to my favorite charity website is www.worldvision.org

I think that's a brilliant idea! I've done something like that but it was not involving animals. Instead, I donated some of my old books (that were in good condition) to other children who can't afford to buy books for themselves. Since then, I've continued to donate my books to charity every year.

Really great idea, especially for a good cause. My mom has donated children's books to the library, and I always feel great when we give them. I feel like I'm helping someone's education.
