Leaks happen & Love Pink needs major tips!

Periods are a perfectly natural part of being a young woman, but they also come with some challenges. Love Pink has run right smack into one:

Hey girls. I am on my 2nd period now, and last night my pad leaked all over my underwear cuz all the pads r weird. How can I prevent this? I was wearing a really big pad already so that it wouldn't leak, but It didn't work. I don't want to wear those giant overnight pads cuz those r WAY too big!!! What do all u other girls wear at night when u r on ur periods. I need MAJOR tips!!
Love Pink

So it's a drag, but leaks do happen. They happen with pads if the pad is not in exactly the right spot and they can happen with tampons, too. Gravity is your friend when wearing a pad in the day when you're mostly sitting up and standing up. But overnight is tough because you're laying down and gravity may take your menstrual flow in the wrong direction. Here are some tips:

  • Try different kinds of pads - some are bigger, smaller, have various shapes and come with wings to wrap around the underwear - or not.
  • Be sure that your underwear fits snugly so that the pad stays in place, as best as possible.
  • Put on a fresh pad just before bed so that it has maximum absorbency.

If leaks still happen once in a while, don't sweat it. Rinse out underwear, clothes or sheets in cold water, treat with stain remove and wash right away.

Any other bedtime tips, Pink Locker girls?

Think pink!
Jemma

Dear Anonymous.......
I get what your saying. alot of the times i need more pads or a new bra and it feels really werid and awkward to tell my mom. my best advice is to wait for a good time to tell her when she would seem the most understanding. maybe you could suggest going to the mall and when ur walking by the bra section, bring it up! act casual about it, not stiff and nervous. Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Anonymous,
tell your mom (if you have to change in a locker room for gym) "Hey, Mom it's really awkward kind of to have to change for gym at school without anything on." By this point, she'll probably suggest a bra. But remember, your mom was a kid/teen too :) She knowwwwssss :) Also, try to do it like either on a short car ride on the way back, or in your house, because I know they say "Do it when you're alone together" but that's super duper awkward so do it where you can get away easily.
Hope I helped!!!

Okay girls, listen up! Being a teen can be tough, trust me, I am one. I am 15 years of age and I have pretty much been through everything you guys are going through now. So, my advice to you is; get some friends over, have a slumber party and talk to each other about what you're going through. Chances are, they'll be going through the exact same thing. As for periods, you can get pads that attach on to your trousers to prevent leaking. They take a lot more time to put on, but if you're feeling that self concious about it, then maybe its an idea. Also, try having a shower every night/morning, it will leave you feeling fresh and it will wash away any blood left behind so you can properly see how much you're getting. I have a heavy flow, so what I do is mark a small 'P' for period on my calender on the day I start, so I know roughly when to expect it next month. I always keep a stash in a makeup bag in my school bag of sanitary towels etc, so if Im caught off guard I'm prepared. And one last thing, smile, think of it this way; you're one step closer to you're very own future. Goold luck girls!

And then she said im goin to go take u out to get some. Then I said NO! I have a training one but I rlly don't use it cause it makes me embarrassed. Plus all the girls in my class wear em. I can tell cause it shows right through their shirts in light! Wat do I do I don't want anyone to kno I wear one! Wat about swimsuits? Padded or not? I rlly don't want to look wierd? Also, tell your mom, she can help prevent permenent stains. Also, if you sleep on your back, try moving the pad back.

Because your uterus builds up a lining of blood and tissue to be protection if an egg meets sperm and a baby is created. If a baby is not made, the lining is shed through your vagina and it comes out as a liquid containing blood. This is your period.
