Bras: Three girls, three problems

Not surprisingly, many girls are waiting for answers on questions about the PBBs (periods, bras, and boys.) So let's start with the bra questions. Three girls asked three different questions.

A sized said...I really want a padded bra and I measured myself and I'm an A. But, I'm kinda scared to ask my mom for a padded bra because she still thinks in a training bra. What should I do?

My advice to A sized is to find a good time when she's alone with her mom to ask for a new bra. If you feel shy, email or text her. She also can check out this popular post on Moving Up to Cup Bras.

Claudia said...Do you know some places in America that sell GOOD bras with hooks? I mean I see them at places but I don't like them. I have some but they're pullovers. I think they are easier to wear (hooks)

P.S. I am not afraid to ask my mom, I just need some store in AMERICA that I can go to.

THANK YOU

My advice to Claudia is to go to a store that sells bras, where there is a salesperson who can measure you. Ask your mom for ideas on where to go. Sometimes they have special events where they have someone who's an expert in measuring. Once you know your size, you'll probably have to try on a bunch of different sizes and styles. It takes time, but hopefully, you'll find one that feels just right. When you do, ask your mom if you can buy at least two!

Anonymous said...I'm 12, and I don't wear a bra because it feels uncomfortable. I am the oldest girl in my family, and I feel embarassed because my brothers make fun of me. But now my parents told my relatives i don't wear one! HELP!!!

My advice to Anonymous is that it's OK not to wear a bra. Some people really don't like them. You might want to find bra alternatives with clothes that are snug or sheer. You can wear tanks, camisoles, or sports bras.

For the scoop on bras, read this...Breasts and Bras.

Any other bra advice for these girls?

Think pink!
Jemma

im not really sure what size i should be and i don't really want to get fitted at the shop.

I think 8A is too small but 10A might be too big slightly? is it all right if the bra is just a tiny bit too big? i am so paranoid about my breasts (not that i have really big ones) will sag. i dont know why!! i'm just scared they will.

I'm in grade 6 and I measured myself and Im apparently a B-cup. Is that too big? Also I still wear sports bras. Should I wear a cup bra? I really want to but I wanted someone's opinion to make sure. I don't really mind my size because I always wear flowy tops so you can hardly tell

Dear scardycat,
It is okay to want to find a bra that is loose fitting but the point of a bra is so they hold your girls up and give them support. The best advice I can give is try a sports bra. It kind of feels like a tank top that is cut of at midpoint.

Hi Girlytomboy,
No, that is not too big. Every girl is different, so some girls in sixth grade may be flat-chested while other girls are almost fully developed. :) I personally think that cup bras make a girl look nicer from the outside (Depending on the shirt, I can usually tell if a person is wearing a cup bra because her nipples are not piercing through the shirt. I think girls look nicer without the nipples showing, but that's just my opinion.), but you can continue to wear a sports bra if it feels comfortable. For me, I have been wearing camisole tops with those built-in bras for three years (My breasts are developing at a really slow rate.), and I just recently asked my mom for a bra. It was like a mix in between a training bra and a sports bra because it had hooks, but it was shaped like a sports bra. It also didn't have any cups.
I hope this helps!

I did it myself and I was accurate. If you're more comfortable doing it yourself than you can look up a video on how to do it. Or you can ask your mom if she can do it for you if you think it would be more accurate. But for the most accurate result, you can get fitted at a store. Good luck :)

I am 11 and I wear a 30A bra (english size) and I have just started to wear them. Padded bras are great for your first bras but sports bras are a good alternative. Padded bras are very comfortable! Don't be afraid to ask your Mum for a bra, remember she went through all this too! I would suggest buying them at wonderbra.

To naomiangel,
i'm suggesting that if your chest hasnt developed yet, and you dont want it to be awkward when you change, is wear a plain sleeveless spaghetti strap camisole top (if you dont know what it is then you can search it up;)). i know how you feel when you find out that you have to change in front of other girls in the locker room lol i think every girl here probably experienced it. but if you dont really need a bra then i dont think you should worry over having one just because other girls younger than you have one, its just in my opinion though. i hope this little advice helps :)

Hi,
I live in the Philippines, and I am 10 and already wore a bra this May. I am going to be Grade 5 this June, and I know a lot of stores here in the Philippines that sell good bras, like S.M. and Robinsons Malls. I suggest you should ask your mom if you need one, but in my situation my mom told me that I needed one. When we went bra shopping at S.M. in the Department Store, I had bought 2 white training bras and 2 colored bras with matching undies. But I suggest you but the white ones for school (if you had white uniforms) because it will be obvious that you are wearing a colored one, and in our school some high schoolers wear colored bras and the other elementary students laugh and point at them. Good Luck!

Then when u find the padded bra u want that fits correctly ask her to buy it for u. The worst she can do is say no. If she says no try another time or when ur older. You never kno until u ask

To girl 3(Anonymous)

It is totally okay if you don't feel like wearing a bra. A good time to gets bra is when you can see your boobs through tops or shirts. If you are not comfortable in bras then try the training bras which have no cups. For your brothers, just tell them to not interfere in your personal matters. ( Doesn't matter if u r the eldest)

It depends! If you're wearing a bra that you can see through and then you still show through your shirt, probably. If you're wearing a neon bra and a white shirt, you should probably wear a tank top. Of course, it's fine to just wear a tank top with a built in bra or a bra cami.

Hope I helped!

I'm in Ireland and we start secondary (high school) when we are 12-13. I'm going there next year. My friend told me that we have to change for Pe in the locker room and it will be really awkward for me. I've about 5 mths to ask her to get me a bra because we go swimming with my class. She asked me if I wanted to get one a few days after she saw my friend in town. I was REALLY nervous and I made an excuse to to go downstairs. I still don't have the guts to tell her and I have very short time left. My mom is really busy and she rarely has time to go anywhere. What can I do??? I'm really shy... HELP!!!

Gapbody has some amazing bras with no wires or hooks and the fabric is super soft and still gives some support. Check those I find them extremely comfy don't even know I'm wearing them.
