Padded bathing suits - yes or no?

Summer is coming and our thoughts turn to swimsuits. They're fun and you can do so much fun stuff in them, but they can also stress girls out. Padded swimsuits are controversial.

Some girls like them because they can smooth things out and make them feel less exposed. Other girls like them because they can give them a little more shape if they are on the flat-chested side. But still other people - maybe your mom? - might not like them because they can make a girl look more grown up than she is.

And if you're the kind of girl that likes to be natural, you might not like padded swimsuits because the extra padding feels weird and you know it's not the real you. Take our poll and share your thoughts on the padded swimsuit issue.

Think pink!

I really think that they are a good idea, because when I wear bathing suits I cant wear bra and My boobs are past just 'buds' so I think that they are great! One place you can get padded bathing suits is justice.

If u want a suit with a bra go to justice...two pieces have little slit in front of ur boobs so it pads it..one pieces have training bras...I have 2 piece and it works fine. I don't feel exposed

I agree with you icygirl. I like them because..... they make my boobs look less pointy I am actually on the bigger chested side for my grade (Sixth), and I don't wear them to look bigger. I dont like really thick pads. No one should feel like they need the padded swim suit because they aren't big enough. To me, that's not a good enough reason to wear them unless you are REALLY self concious about your boobs. Oh, I get my swim suits at Justice.

Padded swim suits are great. They give a little more shape, they make you feel less exposed, and if you want to look just a bit more mature they are great for that

I think they are good for older girls, but young girls (younger than 12) shouldn't.
1.It would make you look much chestier than your friends.
2. It would feel embarrassing and awkward to ask for one.
3. You don't need one. You are still young. Enjoy your childhood. Don't rush into being mature. You are still children.

i like the pading. and with the other bathing suits that dont have them i cut a hole on the inside with that thin layer but not through the whole suit and i will slip the pading in there so i can wear whatever bathing suit i want instead of looking for ones with the pading. so next time u go shopping get one with pading and then get whatever u want and tell me if u like my idea.

I personally like padding in the swimsuits because other wise my nipples show through and it is embarassing!!!! also they give extra support when im just hanging out before i change so i am more comfortable. i think its personal choice althought if you dont need them, i wouldn't use them becaause it just looks stupid. (im not trying to be rude, it sounds horrible because you can't hear my tone of voice.0

I think padded swimsuits are a great idea. I started developing at age 8 and started wearing padded swimsuits at age 10. Also teenage boys can be really mean and inapropriate.
To me all teenage girls should be wearing padded bathing suits. Inmature boys will stare or comment on your breasts and nipples.
And I don't know about everyone else but I would feel completely uncomfortable without one. Us girls already have so much to worry about. Periods, boys, school, sports, ect. The last thing we need to worry about are our breasts while were swimming.

(btw I get my bathing suits at Kohls. SO CUTE! <3)

@Appreciate who you are, I started wearing padded swim suits at age 10 because I was already really developed. If your uncomfortable then, in my opinion, you do need one.

To the anonymous who wants a padded bra, but is afraid to ask her mom, you should go to kohls or justice, because they have padded bathing suits. Or if your older ( about 13) u could go to victoria secret pink. Find a padded bathing suit u like, then ask your mom if u could get it. Dont bring up the fact of it being padded unless she asks or doesnt let u get it. I hope I helped!

if you feel like you 'show' to much, talk to your mom about a padded swimsuit, if she says no, she may feel that you are not ready. Sometimes, a padded swimsuit just smooths things out and makes you feel more secure. If you are trying to make yourself look bigger, then skip the padded suit, and go for a regular one.
Hope this helps,
LAUREN

I don't think thatI'm ready for a padded swimsuit. Although on one of mine one of my nipples is starting to show, I think that I just want a thicker suit. (Also, I want a bikini, but my dad has a strong likeness for modesty). And, for the poll, I really think it depends on the age and shape of the body!

I think super padded bathing suits are a little much, but ones that have a little padding or shape can be good to help you not "show through". And maybe if your a little flat, it might be nice to have a little shape so you feel more confident. Just a little though. You don't want to be dancing around with so much padding you look like dolly Parton :)

May 30, 2012 at 5:54 PM

i think padded bathing suits are good if you are ready (like 12yrs old) sometimes you only have 1 boob grown in and it's awkward to wear something un-padded. my trick is, show your mom the padded bathing suit you want online and she'll say "will you fit the cup?" and you say "I don't know" and then she'll look and she might feel (it's a little weird :-s) and then as easy as that, you'll get it! for younger kids, it's inappropriate and men and even boys will look you like you're a chocolate cake if you know what i mean.

@MudbloodLover
just explain that you feel uncomfortable with your shape showing through, that people are making unkind comments about it and that wearing a padded swimsuit will help to stop this. mothers are protective of their daughters,so when she knows that people are being unkind she will probably understand. tell her that it only needs to be thinly padded, one that will stop your shape showing through but that wont change your natural shape so much.

hope i helped, good luck!

I'm kinda both :\ Reasons why its good:
~ I'm sorta in stage 3 of breast developement, and I don't like looking "pointy".
~ Some girls who aren't that developed like to have a little padding(weird, but I do too.)
~ Sometimes it can add comfort if the padding isn't too thick/thin like a soft padded bra.
However, I can see the reasons why its bad:
~ Some girls might not want to look bigger.
~ To some girls it feels awkward and uncomfortable, especially around your "flat" friends.
~ Some girls might not want their chest bigger and be self-concious if a boy or a man is looking at her.
I hope I covered most of the reasons why. Thanks for reading!~

I think that from age 10 and up you should wear a padded swimsuit but not to much padding or no offense it just looks very unnatural.I buy my bathing suits at Justice. It has the perfect amount of padding in it. Also they have the 40% off coupon right now so. There bathing suit also are not to revealing or grown up. Another place that is good if you are 13 or older you might be able to get a super cute one at forever 21. I am 13 and i have a large chest area but the bottoms do not fit me due to the fact i would need an extra small. and they only carry small.

I think it's ok beacuase ... Think of it like this a bikini is almost like a bra and under ware or the bikini top and bottom .it's like your first bra you start with a trianing bra (regular bathing suit) and later when your boobs are bigger you wear a padded or cupped bra ( padded bathing suit).
P.S there are some things wrong with it like I wore a padded bikini to a pool party but my friend embarest me by saying loudly wow you have big boobs

As long as the swimsuit doesn't push up your breasts to make them look bigger which is gross and is modest I think a padded swimsuit is a good idea for girls who have breasts.

When i wore a padded suit for the first time, it sorta made my nipples that stick out bigger! in other words before they were small, now they are bigger things that stick out! the pad is just pushed by my nipple... i thought it was supposed to make it smoother!?!

I think their good so that you are less exposed. Sometimes even without a padded bathing suit you arenot so exposed because of decoration on the swim suit. If the suit is plain though, I think it should be padded.

ok for the poll at the end, i said it was a good idea. the reason is, i think i might be reiceiving my Breast Buds, because say i accidentaly bump my chest against something it hurts soooo bad! so back to the topic, say ur mom needs to tell u something so u swim to the side of the pool. your leaning up against the side and u bump into it hard. OUCH that hurts! or if u n ur BFFs r playing and someone accidentaly bumps into u during a swimming race, it might hurt alot. so to make a long story short, it could hurt if u get bumped :/

Well, I know how many of you other girls feel! I too have pointy-er nipples, and they get very see-through when I'm swimming, so padded swimming suits are good for me. I personally wear training bras during regular school days, because I don't need as MUCH coverage (still need some for my breasts) but water will make my nipples show through a little more. My mom thought it was a good idea for me to get a padded swim suit because they are see-through, and it makes me feel more comfertable around my friends, and honestly, at my grade, most of my friends are all developing, so I'm not too worried about being the only one with nipples showing through my shirts. I think you should all be comfertable in your own skin, and love being a girl!

Hope some of my experiences helped!
