Itchy-itchy, so what should she do?

We have received LOTS of questions about girls being itchy "down there." We are not sure if it's different girls - all who have a similar itchy problem. Or, it could be one girl who is soooo itchy that she has written in dozens of times. This really might be it because if you're itchy, especially in that particular area, you are MISERABLE and DESPERATE for it to stop.

The good news is that a doctor will be able to help. So what our itchy girl (or girls) needs to do is tell her mom, or another adult who is responsible for taking her to the doctor. Itchy doesn't usually go away on its own. And it could get worse.

It's normal to feel a little funny about bringing it up, but you could say something like, "Mom, I've been feeling itchy and I think I need something for it."

Girls, do you agree?

Think pink!

I asked my mom if that was normal when I was itchy. She asked where so I just said down there and she bought me a cream. I just take it when I start to get itchy.

Sometimes over-coming stuff like this does require you to break some ice, but once you get started on the conversation, its usually not as bad...
Talking to a doctor can especially seem kind-of awkward or scary, but you just have to remember that thats what they are there for. Being honest with your doctor is especially important, even if it is a man (my main doctor is!), because it really helps to get an accurate diagnosis so you can get treated properly.
Starting to become comfortable with your doctor and/or parents about this kind of stuff now is important as well because that way it will be easier in the future!!

As for if your doctor is a man, try not to worry too much. It really isn't as bad as you'd think, because they really have spent time in school learning about this stuff, and have heard/treated/seen and answered questions about all of it before!

Good luck everyone :)

i knew a girl who's doctor was a man and she was going through puberty. She handled it by thinking "he's a doctor and he deals with this everyday" but if that does not help try to tell ur mom since ur getting older and stuff it might be time to switch doctors. hope this helps.

Does this have something to do with "pin worm"? It is something that lives in your hind quarters and it itches! Remember to wash your hands when you come in from outside!

Hi Anonymous (11),

Wow, that's a bummer! But I've heard after a lot of girls get their period, they end up wishing Aunt Flo had waited a little longer! Every girl's body is different, so you never know what might happen!

Hi Anonymous (13),

Discharge and mood swings are definitely signs that your period could be approaching. It's okay, though, because all of our bodies are diverse.

I hope this helps!

Hey, Anonymous (Signs of next period)!

It's normal that you've been waiting for a long time. It could be that you're still irregular.

I hope this helps!

I also have itching and though it might be eczema. But I realized it was just wear the Pubic hair follicles are. Maybe this could be from growth of pubichair? I'm not sure if I'm right though. Definitely talk to someone about this if you have it.

I also have a minor itching problem, but it turned out to just be uncomfortable pubic hair sprouts making me feel itchy and uncomfortable. I would go to the doctor just to be safe though, if I thought it was really serious.

I trimmed my pubic hair with scissors and it stopped itching. I think it was just hanging in the wrong places and causing my skin to be irritable. However I would still talk to a doctor to get something for this.

Try putting a cold washrag on the itchy part. It takes away the feeling for a few hours. I think it could be because of sweat.

I have pain and itchiness "down there" but I don't want to see a doctor because he might have to look in that area. Also, for my pain it gets really bad like cramps sort of and I can't stop it.
