Makeup - how much is too much?
Answer Queen also has some questions about lip gloss, mascara and all that fun stuff:
Do you think you can do a question/blog thing about makeup? Like when and where you should wear it ? I don't know when to wear it like at school only? By the way, my mom bought me eyeliner mascara and lipgloss so she will let me wear it. I just don't want to wear too much though! I'm going into 8th grade and a lot of girls start wearing makeup now and I kind of want to wear a little, since my mom is letting me. I just don't know if you will do this question since the blog is mainly about puberty and lately bras but it really will help me thanks to whoever answers my question(:

Makeup is an interesting topic. For one thing, you don't have to wear it. You might try a little on and think, "Strange, that doesn't look like me!" Or you may try a little and think, "Hey, girl in the mirror, you look great!"
If you're one of those girls who likes makeup and want to wear a little, here's my best advice:
Start small! A little goes a long way with makeup. Usually, girls look best when they don't overdo it.
Practice! Using makeup is a skill (it's even a job), so it's OK if you don't apply it perfectly the first few times. Experiment on your own because you can always wash your face.
Get expert advice! There could be an expert in your very own family - your mom, grandma, older sister or aunt. Ask for some tips and maybe get their advice on colors and types of makeup. For an extra thrill, maybe a grownup can take you to a makeup store or department store counter. The people who work there know a lot about makeup and like to show you how to use it.
One more thing - and it's important. Take a moment to think about makeup and women, in general. When we wear makeup, we're participating in a very common practice - it's what women do in our society. It's considered normal to redden the lips, pink up the cheeks, and make our eyes more dramatic. But maybe it can be a negative. For instance, you don't see guys putting on makeup in the morning! And does it say that it's our JOB to be pretty?
I haven't figured it all out yet, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. I even heard of high school girls decided to make one school day week "no makeup day." Can you understand why? Would you participate in a day like that with your friends?
