Whoa - is that B.O.?

OK, today we take on BODY ODOR! Does this worry you, as it does our friend, the confused girl?

If so, you must stop worrying right now. Everyone and I mean everyone can get stinky. Body odor is just sweat plus bacteria - nothing to be afraid of. Here's what she had to say...

Dear PLS,
I know I'm growing up ad my body is changing. But the thing is, ever since the age of 11, I'm getting stinkier and stinkier... I know I have Body Odour (B.O) and is always sweating, but I don't want this to happen on me. I mean, people are gossiping about my B.O and I don't want this to happen... I will feel sad.... I hope you will help me as I've read your books and they are AWESOME!
The confused girl

Little kids don't have body odor. But once you get a little older - even if you don't have a ton of puberty signs - you can get it. There are three easy steps to controlling it:

Get a daily shower or bath. Really suds it up!
Wear clean clothes & underwear. Change after exercising.
Wear a gentle deodorant.

That's all there is to it. You've got to do all three everyday. Anyone else have some body odor advice?

Think pink (not stink)!

Thanks Jemma for answering my question! ^^ sorry I spelt 'odor' wrongly as my phone has this auto-correct mode and I kept it turned on. But you see, when I applied deodorant, some of my friends were able to smell it and they said it made me become sinker. But, my other friends seem rather okay with my B.O. So, who should I listen to? Should I continue to apply deodorant?

Showers and deoderant are fine... but DON'T WEAR PERFUME. Some girls have allergies and asthma and perfume makes them cough and sneeze. Alot of girls start wearing perfume because they want to smell good and they don't realise the damage they are doing ton other girls' health.
God bless you guys!!!

I know! one of my teachers had the windows open when it was cold out, because she said she's allergic to the perfume that someone "took a bath in!"

Well, you could try not to raise your hand as much! That's what I do sometimes. Maybe try not to get sweaty much in school. I know it's hard, but we have to deal with it. Good luck

Find a schedule that works for you! I take a shower every other day before school and I put on deodorant at least twice a day (right after my shower and at gym second hour). It works for me! I started getting it when I was about 11 and it took awhile for me to figure out a schedule that works for my body, but try different things! Some girls' bodies don't need to be cleaned every day, some do! Also, get antiperspirant deodorant. It really helps me. SOOO I HOPE I HELPED!

You can wear scentless deodorant if your friends notice the smell. In my opinion, I would rather smell over fragrancey than be stinky. And don't wear perfume with it, I just put on sweet smelling lotion.
Hope I helped! =)

. Just wear cocoa butter deoderent.
. Don't wear powder or scentless I had a boy sit right next to me and say I smell like soap. EMBARRASSING.
. Take bathroom breaks to wash up if you smell your B.O

That's all there is to it.

Look at your options and ask yourself 'who do I think is telling the truth?' If your friends start insulting you to the level where it turns personal, step away from them. I would recommend Secret's antiperspirant/ deodorant...it works very well. Hope I helped! :)

@ Anonymous , that depends on how old you are. But, for some girls(like me), it's normal to miss your period a month or two. My grandma's friend has her period every 6 months, isn't that awful? Or, if you are still going through puberty, it's normal for you to miss, as your body still has not stablized....

Hope this helps you!

Actually, only getting your period twice a year wouldn't be a bad thing.:) I'm the smartest in my class too! Although, there's a boy in my class that's even smarter than me! In his free time, he does highschool level stuff like calculus and scientific notation, so that usually takes most of the pressure off me. I used to feel really pressured to do well, but my friends and family told me sometimes I should just relax! That's why I'm on this blog so much! It just helps me relax.

Something that also helps B.O. is wearing loose clothing. Tight clothing makes you sweat a lot and traps the odor.

Dear Jemma,
Please help me!! So, I'm 12 years old. I haven't been on a scale or anything, but i have a little extra fat on my stomach, butt and hips. The other day my dad came to me and randomly told me I'm going on a diet. I REALLY don't think I need a diet! I've already gotten a bit slimmer than I was, and my legs are very skinny, so I'm almost 100% sure that the extra fat will go away. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the rest of my family is very skinny (except my dad, but that's just because he's gotten older) so my dad thinks it's 'strange' that I'm 'chunky'. I'm not even chunky! I look skinny unless I don't have my shirt on or something, and even then it just looks like a little extra fat, like I said before. I'm sorry for going on and on, I just really want some advice!!!

@ Anonymous with the diet question

If you look at the "Can someone force you to go on a diet?" post, you'll see that I asked a question about diets too. It sounds like you are perfectly healthy, and you mostly feel like it too. Isn't that all that matters? The truth is, no one can tell you to change when it's not a change you want or need unless its extremely serious or you're at a dangerous weight, (which it sounds like you're not) you're fine. Trust me on this one, diets when aren't needed, usually end badly, unless you're doing it safely. My cousin started dieting when she was a teenager, and she became anorexic and almost died. No one can change who you are, but if you feel you need to improve, remember, the safest, best way to do it, is switching tiny foods like chips or cookies for something a little more healthy, like carrots and dip (better than it sounds) or yogurt. and then stay active. find what you like. (dance, soccer, cheerleading or whatever you'd like.) Tell your dad that you appreciate him looking out for you but you're just fine.

Just remember that you are perfect just the way you are. :) sorry this was so long! I hope this helped.

@Vanessa, thanks! It helps so much! :D I have got a few loose shirts and I think that it helps me. :)

@Anonymous, are you a girl or a boy? If you are a girl then, you could seek help or questions to your mother or any other female adults. Like , your aunt, teacher, school nurse, etc. if you are a boy, well, there's something called biology. You could ask your science teacher if you are studying biology.

Hope this helps! ^^

You could try wearing a lint perfume to cover it up a bit. Nothing too strong, as that might make it worse.

November 9, 2012 at 10:36 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

@Anonymous, well a period is when an ovary produces an egg, or ovum, which is then released into the fallopian tube of a girl's uterus. The ovary sends off hormonal signals. The body then realizes that the girl is not pregnant, so the endometrium is not needed for a baby. It then sheds its lining, made of blood and tissue, which falls out of the vagina. This lasts for up to a week and occurs once a month in every woman's life.

November 9, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Anonymous superbunny said...

Oh my gosh!!! You say "confuzzled" too? I love that word! If you don't think you're fat, then just tell your dad straight out that you're not fat, and you don't need a diet. I also think you should ask your mom for advice. Ask her if she thinks you're a healthy weight and bring up the fact that your dad's been pressuring you to take a diet.
God bless you guys!!!

Here are some songs that cheer me up for some reason:

- So Good by B.o.B
- It's Nice To Be Alive by Ball Park Music
- Let's Dance to Joy Division by The Wombats
- (All songs by One Direction! I love them!)

Sing and dance and be happy! Pamper yourself, read your fave books, watch tv, drink hot chocolate, wear your pyjamas all day and do whatever makes you feel happy!

Oh and
why are fish so smart?
because they live in schools.
