What's a period?
Let’s get back to basics today with Allona’s simple but
important question:
Dear PLS,
What is a period?
Allona, 9
A period is a sign that a girl is growing up or becoming a
woman. In other words, a girl’s body is changing on the inside so that one day
she could have a baby. Also called menstruation, a period is actually a period of a days when some blood
is released through the vagina. You might say ew, gross! But it’s not so bad.
And it happens to just about every older girl and woman. Pads or tampons will keep you comfortable and can
prevent the menstrual flow from staining your underwear and clothes.
The blood is actually the shedding of the uterine lining,
the lining of the uterus. The uterus is a reproductive organ inside a girl’s
body. If a woman is going to have a baby, the lining stays put to help the
fertilized egg (eventually a baby) grow. But if there's no growing fetus, or baby, there's no need for the lining.

i just got my first periods this week, and i finally got used to pads, but somehow i always end up getting blood on my undies. i tried soaking them in cold water but it didn't get it out. what other methods are there? and what can i do about the cramps i get?
-pink glitter girl
Periods also come with sideeffects such as cramps which can be realllyyyy bad n back pain n headaches

try using a bit of hand soap on the spot as you are washing it, and rub the undies for a minute where the blood is once you have soap on that spot. Rinse and repeat. If that doesn't work, you'll either have to ignore the blood it or buy new undies. :P
Hope I helped!
Thanks! i'll try it :)

Hey! I just wanted to say, as a girl who has had her period, that everyone is different. Nobody should be afraid of a period, because it is simply a sign that you are maturing and becoming a woman. Of course, they can be a pain in the butt, but you will eventually learn to handle your period like any other hygiene issue. When the Aunt Flo knocks at your door, be sure to be prepared, and to tell a trusted adult (I told my mom). They will help you out, and show you how to manage your period. But most importantly: relax! every woman gets one at one time or another! Think of it like you are just growing older, and that you are maturing. No problem. Good Luck!
Ew that's gross I'm not getting married
Tie a jacket around your waist so blood doesn't show through.:)
Ew
don't worry I'm also a sixth grader but I haven't started my Period yet.I'm actually excited.there's nothing to be scared about.I'm new here.
A period is when your body decides it isn't having a baby. It flushes out all of the blood and tissue and padding that was inside you, waiting for a baby.
Thank you Jemma and let me tell u periods suck but u get out of a lot of stuff🙀☺️
For any girls out there who are nervous for there first period to come or any girls who only think ew! or gross! when they hear the word period your not alone. I got my period when I was 10 (in fifth grade) And I've had it for a few years now. It was a struggle at first because I wasn't use to the responsibility that came along with it but having my period eventually became a lot easier and I was excited that I was finally becoming a women! Bottom line you shouldn't be scared of your period you should look forward to it and embrace it when it gets here!

Hey guys am new 2 this blog am 13 and 4 months but I don't have my periods plizzz help :-)
What's Aunt Flo?
A period is the lining your uterus built up in case you got pregnant. It happens when an egg releases from the ovaries and travels through the fallopian tube. But if the egg doesn't get fertilized, the lining (blood) comes out and you can use many different types of products to collect the blood.
Aunt Flo is your period

If you have questions don't be afraid to talk to your mom or some other female you trust like a friend or family member that already got their period I talked to my mom it was the best thing ever bc I wanted to talk to her about it for so long and now my mom gave me permission to talk to my doctor about and now I feel great for getting all of that period stuff out so again don't be afraid to talk to a trusted female or anyone you trust
THANKS!!!! ;)
